    Digital Desk: The N Biren Singh government said on Monday to the Supreme Court that 142 people have been killed in the violence in Manipur during the last two months.


    In the latest report filed before the bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha, Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi stated that 5,995 FIRs have been lodged and 6,745 people have been arrested to keep the situation under control. Six cases have been transferred to the CBI for further investigation, the state government told the court.


    As many as 5,000 incidents have taken place in the state since May, with Imphal East and Imphal West districts reporting the most casualties.


    The state government highlighted the steps that it has taken to maintain peace and order. It stated that security deployment is being assessed on a regular basis and that an SOP has been put in place to deal with any situation.


    The state government told the court that 124 paramilitary forces and 184 Army columns are on the ground to safeguard the peace.


    The state government told the court that attempts are being made to link students staying in relief camps with the nearest schools as part of its efforts to restore normalcy. It further stated that various competitive examinations have been held throughout the state.


    The state claimed that they are taking steps to conditionally ease the Internet restriction on a case-by-case basis. Internet connection in the state has been suspended for the past two months.


    The state government stated that the curfew relaxation hours are being increased after an evaluation of local conditions.


    The state government asked petitioners not to name tribes during their arguments, stating that doing so could harm the situation on the ground.


    Last week, the court ordered the state government to submit an updated report on the efforts taken to end the violence and to rehabilitate the people affected.
