Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Sunday that 16 individuals were arrested for promoting anti-national remarks amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack, that claimed the lives of 27 civilians.
Digital Desk: A total of 16 individuals, including a woman were arrested from different places across Assam for posting pro-Pakistan and anti-Indian slogans following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley of Jammu and Kashmir on April 22.

Taking to X, CM Sarma said on Sunday, April 27, that three individuals were arrested from Golaghat, Tamulpur, and Udalguri for their anti-national remarks on the Pahalgam attack. The three arrested individuals were identified as Dimple Baruah, Tahib Ali, and Bimal Mahato.
Golaghat Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajen Singh said that a woman identified as Dimple Baruah was arrested from Golaghat by the Guwahati Crime Branch for her controversial remark on the terrorist attack. She was later handed over to the Golaghat Police, Singh added.
Among the arrested individuals, Assam police have arrested AIUDF MLA of Dhing constituency, Aminul Islam and District Secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Parishad of Biswanath, Anil Bania.
Chief Minister Sarma on Saturday issued a strict warning to the individuals found posting anti-national and pro-Pakistani sentiments, directly or indirectly. He said that individuals found guilty would be booked under the National Security Act (NSA).
