As per reports, ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebration, the demand for dog meat is high in Nagaland, so Assam is witnessing frequent cases of illegal trade of dogs, which has been prevailing for quite a time now.
On July 4, the Nagaland Government decided to ban dog meat citing ‘cruelty’ as the reason for banning the dog meat trade in Nagaland.
However, this decision did not go down well with many folks, especially those whose livelihood depended on this industry.
Furious about the decision, licensed dog traders went to the Gauhati High Court to challenge this decision. Moreover, NSCN-IM also slammed this decision by labeling it as an attempt to appease political celebrities.
