Digital Desk: Three party leaders were suspended on Tuesday by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) for participating in the "BJP Government-sponsored political program Amrit Kalash Yatra."

Goalpara Mahila Congress President Afruza Begum, Matia Block Congress President Aynul Hoque Choudhury, and Goalpara East MLA A K Rasheed Alam were all suspended by the party.

In an official order, the party mentioned, "As per news broadcast on electronic media by Goalpara East MLA, Shri A K Rasheed Alam, Matia Block Congress President under Goalpara DCC Shri Aynul Hoque Choudhury and Goalpara district Mahila Congress President Smt. Afruza Begum took part in the BJP Government-sponsored political program "Amrit Kalash Yatra".

The decision listed the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's vocal call for burning Sonia Gandhi's official residence in the same way as Lanka was burnt as justification for the Congress not taking part in the Amrit Kalash Yatra.

The letter further criticized the Assam Chief Minister for challenging Rahul Gandhi's DNA and accused the party of engaging in dirty politics to remove him from the Lok Sabha, highlighting the reasons why Congress chose not to participate in the event.

The directive also stated, "By taking part in this Government-sponsored PR program, you both have caused huge damage to the Party and disillusioned lakhs of Party workers."

"Therefore, as directed by Hon'ble President Assam PCC Shri Bhupen Kumar Borah, Matia BCC President Shri Aynul Hoque Choudhury, and Goalpara District Mahila Congress President Smt. Afruza Begum is suspended from the Congress Party with immediate effect," said the statement.

It should be mentioned that earlier in the day, reports about the Assam Congress preparing to take action against one of its members for alleged treachery surfaced.

According to the sources, Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam, a Congress MLA, was at risk of facing disciplinary actions for his criticism of APCC Chairman Bhupen Borah.

This occurred when the Goalpara East MLA for the Congress in Assam made some remarks that were critical of the state chairman of the party.

Rasheed Alam allegedly criticized Bhupen Borah, the president of the Assam Congress, on camera. Alam had criticized the APCC head by telling reporters that Bhupen Borah wasn't the all-important.

Moreover, he continued by questioning the role of working president Rana Goswami.
