Guwahati: The directorates of Archaeology, Museum and the Historical & Antiquarian Studies will be brought under the proposed Department of Indigenous Faith and Culture announced by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
During the Zero hour discussion in the state assembly, on the topic of creation of the new department proposed by AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and BJP MLA Bhubon Pegu CM Sarma stated “We have made a proposal that the Directorate of Archaeology, Directorate of Museum and the Directorate of Historical and Antiquarian Studies will be brought under the new department.”
“On July 10, the Assam Cabinet had approved a proposal to create the ‘Department of Indigenous Faith and Culture’ to protect the faith and culture practices of people belonging to tribal and other indigenous communities,” added CM Sarma.
The CM further said we are thinking of allocating Rs 100 crore for this new department in this year’s budget. I will be happy if I can give Rs 500 crore to it in the fifth year. Moreover, the topic will be discussed with the tribal people as well as with the tribal MLA’s.
Tensed about the culture, tradition and religious identity of the tribal’s CM Sarma said with the advent of modernization of society, beliefs, tradition, and religions started to become extinct. It is the duty of the society and the government to preserve the language, art and culture and literature of the indigenous tribal people.
