Digital Desk: As many as three people were killed in fresh violence in the Ukhrul district of Manipur in the early hours of Friday. The victims were killed during an exchange of fire with armed criminals.
As per reports, three villagers were killed as a result of heavy gunfire that broke out in the village of Thowai Kuki in the Ukhrul district of Manipur.
Reportedly, three people were missing after hearing loud gunfire from the village this morning.
The villagers soon started searching and later discovered their dead bodies.
The victims killed in the fresh violence have been identified as Jamkhogin Haokip, Thangkhokai Haokip, and Hollenson Baite.
The incident is the most recent to occur in the violent hit Manipur, where ethnic disputes erupted on May 3 following the "Tribal Solidarity March" which was organized in the hill districts to oppose the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
Since the violence began, more than 3,000 people have been injured and over 120 people have lost their lives.
Along with the Manipur Police, over 40,000 central security troops have been sent to the state to control the violence and restore peace.
