    Digital Desk: Following the dreadful road accident in Jalukbari that killed seven students, Dr. Kalyan Kalita, Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Assam Engineering College (AEC), has been named as the college's in-charge Principal.


    Dr. Atul Bora, Principal, AEC, shall immediately take over command to Dr. Kalyan Kalita, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Assam Engineering College, and is directed to go on leave till further orders.


    Furthermore, Dr. Sasanka Sekhar Sharma, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, has been ordered to take a leave of absence till further notice.


    Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday requested that a high-level investigation be launched into the terrible road accident.


    CM Sarma directed the committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and the students' untimely deaths.

    The Chief Minister also directed the Education Department to form a committee to investigate the current election system in colleges and universities and report on the need to revise the system in light of frequent clashes between students during the pre-and post-election period.


    Furthermore, to prevent the recurrence of any occurrence that could endanger the student community's life, the Chief Minister directed the Education Department to form a new committee to improve discipline, rules, and regulations in educational institution hostels. The committee will also look into severe enforcement of hostel in and out times, complete prohibition of alcohol and other drugs on hostel campuses and hostels, and prohibition of an extended stay of hostel ex-boarders. The group will also make recommendations on how to promote healthy communal life within the hostels.
