Digital Desk: In a significant development, Nanda Babu Singh, the former principal controller of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations, secured bail on Tuesday amid allegations in the notorious recruitment scam. A special court reportedly granted Singh bail, marking a crucial turn in the legal proceedings.
Singh, a close associate of former APSC chairman Rakesh Paul, faced accusations of orchestrating the burning of approximately 45,000 answer sheets for APSC preliminary and main exams under Paul's directives. The scandal further implicated Singh in appointing his daughter, Minerva Devi Arambam, to the position of ACS through unethical means.
Minerva, currently serving as the Additional District Commissioner in Karimganj district, was summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in December. Singh's arrest on December 11, following two days of interrogation, led to a three-day police custody. Subsequently, on December 15, he transitioned to judicial custody after the SIT did not seek an extension of his police custody.
