    Digital Desk: Residents of Kaliabor were troubled and frightened after a fire broke out in an electricity post with newly connected cable lines for the installation of smart electrical meters.

    The wave of protest against the APDCL has shaken the entire state of Assam after the sudden increase in the electricity bills in almost every household. Following this, the incident of fire breaking out in Kaliabor has led the residents the demand to replace the digital meters with the earlier ones.

    According to reports, after the fire broke out, many electric fans, refrigerators, and televisions had short circuits and stopped working. According to residents, the incident occurred due to the use of low-quality materials in the installation of smart meters.

    Meanwhile, The people of Assam from different regions of the state, have come on roads staging protests against the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in recent days. The drastic increase in electricity bills in Assam households has enraged the public, and protests against the company have been staged in places like Sivasagar, Kaliabor, Bilasipara, and so on.

    According to reports, the enraged public in Bilasipara in Dhubri staged protests demanding ban of Smart digital meters. The Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti staged a protest in front of the electrical subdivisional office in Bilasipara. The protest was staged against the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, and the Minister of Power of Assam Nandita Garlosa.

    Earlier in Sivasagar, students and Raijor Dol staged a protest in front of the APDCL branch office in Sivasagar. A video also went viral in recent days, where a man from Dergaon in Golaghat broke the digital meter installed in his house into pieces by hitting it badly with an axe. Frequent power cuts in the locality forced the man to take such action.
