Imphal: Animal rights organizations in Manipur announced a reward of Rs. 60,000. People providing information about two individuals who killed dogs in the Thoubal district of Manipur will be rewarded.
The Manipur Dog Lovers' Club and Yening Animal Foundation announced the award amount for the informants on Tuesday. Both the groups launched a campaign to create awareness among people for animal rights and seek justice for the killings.
"Two bike-borne men killed the dog, Mylo, at Wangjing Lamding Cherapura and took away its remains. The dog belonged to a resident, Longjam Anandkumar," said a report issued by the organizations.

"If required, the group members would submit a memorandum to the government asking for justice concerning the killing of dogs and request it to investigate cruelty against animals," continued the report.
Previously, under the Meghalaya government, the Animal Husbandary & Veterinary Department has declared an order recorded September 9, 2021, asking for a prohibition on all sorts of the killing of dogs.
The order stated that the slaughter of stray dogs or trained dogs is a criminal offense under Section 428 and Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Moreover, killing dogs for meat violates the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011.
Hence, the slaughter of stray dogs or trained dogs and the killing of dogs for meat is prohibited in Meghalaya. Any individual found violating this order shall be punished under the laws.
The Government of Meghalaya shared this order on their official Twitter handle. The tweet read, "#Prohibited for the slaughter of stray dogs or trained dogs and killing of dogs for meat in the State of Meghalaya."
