Digital Desk: Keen to ensure a pollution-free Dewali celebration this year, Assam government has instructed all district administrations to restrict the bursting of crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm during the festive days, in addition to ensuring the sale of green crackers only.

To ensure that the public celebrates Diwali in a safe and pollution-free manner, Dhrubajyoti Hazarika, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kamrup Metro convened with other senior district authorities to discuss on the regulations that will be implemented.

All over the district, it is strictly prohibited to burst firecrackers that produce noise between the hours of 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. In addition, it is illegal to produce, sell, or use firecrackers that produce noise levels higher than 125 dB(Al) or 145 dB(C)pk when placed four meters away from the locations of bursting.

Moreover, the sale of other types of fire crackers has been banned in Assam; only green crackers are permitted to burst. During Diwali, cracker sales and bursting are only permitted for two hours, from 8 to 10 p.m.

On the other hand, cracker bursting is permitted from 6 am to 8 am during Chatt Puja.

Additionally, it is strictly prohibited to let off crackers during the celebration in quiet areas such as the Assam Secretariat, Gauhati High Court, and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Additionally, prohibitions have been imposed on the sale of loud-sounding, illegally imported fireworks. If prohibited crackers are offered for sale on the licensee's property, they will be held accountable. It is acceptable to sell only Green Crackers with Indian Origin. The licensee has been directed to follow all applicable orders and orders from the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Government of India, the Pollution Control Board, Assam, the National Green Tribunal, and the Supreme Court of India.

The Kamrup ADC made it clear throughout the meeting that anyone who disobeys a rule will face severe penalties.
