Assam: CBI to investigate SI Junmoni Rabha's death case from today

The development comes after Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh was asked to visit the CBI's office in New Delhi on June 12.

    Digital Desk: According to
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Central Bureau of Investigation
(CBI) took up the investigation into Sub Inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha's death
    on June 14.

    ''The government of India
has delegated the investigation into the unfortunate death of Smt Junmani Rabha
to the Central Bureau of Investigation,'' Sarma tweeted.

    The development comes after
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh was asked to visit the CBI's
office in New Delhi on June 12.

The purpose of the visit was
to discuss the transfer of the death investigation of SI Junmoni Rabha from the
CID Assam to the premier investigative police agency.

    "I will be visiting the
CBI office on June 12 at the request of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa
Sarma." In New Delhi, we will meet with key CBI officers. "Hopefully,
after the discussions, SI Junmoni Rabha's death case will be transferred to
CBI," Assam DGP GP Singh told the media.

    It is important noting that
the CBI can only conduct investigations in Union Territories. The Central
Government, on the other hand, can authorise the CBI to investigate a crime in
a state with the approval of the concerned State Government.

On May 20, Assam DGP GP
Singh officially recommended that all four cases registered in Assam's Nagaon
and Lakhimpur districts be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation
(CBI) after reviewing every aspect of the case and meeting with CID Assam and
    senior police officers.
