Digital Desk: Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the government is going to reserve 5 percent of seats in engineering and medical colleges for students who have completed their education in government schools. Following the completion of today's cabinet meeting in Tinsukia, this announcement was issued.
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma stated that students who pass out from a government school after having studied from Class VII to Class XII at a stretch will be eligible for this reservation.
"5 % seats in Assam's engineering colleges will be reserved for students who have studied at a stretch from Class VII till Class XII from the same government school. This means the student must have studied in a government school from Class VII and has to pass the higher secondary exams from the same school. For them, five percent of seats will be reserved in the engineering and medical colleges," stated CM Sarma.
Meanwhile, it was declared that the Assam cabinet's January meeting will take place at Lakhimpur. The chief minister of Assam said that the next cabinet meeting, which would be the first one for 2024, will take place in January in North Lakhimpur. Following that, the next cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place in Nalbari.
The chief minister of Assam also declared that the state government had approved three bids for investments worth Rs 438 crore.
"Three proposals worth Rs 438 crore for state investments were approved by the cabinet today. The first plan calls for the construction of a Taj hotel by Tata in Kaziranga, a second Radisson hotel in Guwahati, and bamboo crash barriers in Bongaigaon by Bhagyashree Udyog. Steel is used by PWD to construct crash barriers on national highways. According to this company, bamboo crash barriers have the potential to outperform steel crash barriers when treated properly. We received investment bids worth Rs 438 crore from these three industries. The investment plans have been approved by the cabinet by the state industrial policy. As a result, the state has seen a total of 1,400 new establishments," said CM Sarma.
In addition to this, Chief Minister Sarma declared the establishment of a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Authority, which will enable the government to expand its involvement in CSR funds within the state. According to him, this is being done to attract other CSR investments to the state, in addition to those that Oil India Limited and Numaligarh Refinery Limited have already made. An IAS officer would lead the newly established CSR Authority as CEO.
