Digital Desk: Assam government has issued 10,000 cheques under the microfinance waiver scheme to the women of the Dhemaji and Biswanath districts.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed these cheques to women under the debt of microfinance loans for years. These cheques are a kind of financial aid provided by the government to wave away the loan amount.
The Chief Minister's Office issued a statement notifying the women beneficiaries covered under the scheme. The statement stated that around 11,000 women from Dhemaji and 12,600 women beneficiaries from Biswanath have been under the Assam Micro Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme 2021 (AMFIRS).

Assam CM Sarma has given these cheques to around 5,000 beneficiaries of each district at separate events. Sarma has made a promising note during the poll campaigns. To fulfil the poll promise, Sarma started the microfinance loan waiver scheme.
Under this microfinance loan waiver scheme, around 24 lakh poor women would benefit across the state. The government has categorised these women beneficiaries into three categories to make the distribution easier.
Category 1: Category 1 comprises the beneficiaries equipped with a one-time incentive up to Rs 25,000 or the unpaid balance, whichever is less, to incentivise them to resume maintaining good credit discipline.
Category 2: Under this category, reliefs will be provided to borrowers whose payments are due by 1-89 days and for overdue accounts but not non-performing assets (NPA). The state government will disburse the overdue amounts to the borrowers in these cases.
Category 3: This category includes stressed, needy borrowers whose accounts have become NPA. The government will consider providing partial or full ease based on the evaluation.
CM Sarma requested the beneficiaries to use the monetary incentive and support their business ventures during the cheque distribution program.
He further said people that clearing up the loan is important for them to build a good Credit Information Bureau (CIBIL) score. This score will help them to get a loan in the future.
Moreover, Sarma has informed through media that the government will establish up to 10,000 new model Anganwadi centres in the days to come.
