Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared some visuals of the first dispatches of truckloads of potatoes being dispatched from Dibrugarh on Monday.
Taking to X, CM wrote, "Following PepsiCo’s ₹778 cr investment in Assam on September 2023, our farmers will be supplying 50,000 tonnes of potatoes to the company’s factories. Sharing some visuals of the first dispatches which have begun from Dibrugarh District".
PepsiCo India, a well-known food and beverage corporation, committed ₹778 crore to build its first food-focused manufacturing facility in Assam, making it easier to access northeastern markets. It is projected that the manufacturing plant, which occupies more than 44.2 acres in Nalbari, will start up in 2025.
It is anticipated that about 500 people will receive direct and indirect jobs from it. PepsiCo India intends to assist local farmers by employing cutting-edge technologies, premium seeds, and reasonably priced equipment.
The corporation wants to produce its flagship brand, Lay's, with 50,000 tonnes of potatoes sourced from the state. According to a statement from the company, the factory is also expected to increase demand in the upcoming years for 60,000 tons of cold storage capacity. PepsiCo's Chief Executive Officer for Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, Eugene Willemsen, emphasized the importance of increasing capacity in India, one of the company's fastest-growing countries in the AMESA area. The company initiated its operations in the country in 1989.
