Digital Desk: Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on Monday stated that the government led by the Himanta Biswa Sarma BJP government had released those ministers implicated in the 2013–2014 APSC Scam, including its then-chairman, Rakesh Paul, on bail. During a press conference, Gogoi voiced grave concerns about the apparent shielding of people involved in the scheme by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Gogoi stated, "The BJP government's attempts to shield the accused are now blatantly obvious and plain. The government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma cleared the scam's then-chairman, Rakesh Paul, with a clean sheet. Rakesh Paul was unable to be released from prison during Sarbananda Sonowal's government. Rakesh Paul was set free following his appointment as Chief Minister by Himanta Biswa Sarma. Not only Rakesh Paul but also most of the people accused in the APSC scam are no longer in jail and this is a matter of concern."

The MLA continued by emphasizing that twenty-four police officers who are currently in positions were purportedly involved in corruption and were able to prove it in order to get hired. The government's position on corruption has come under scrutiny in light of this disclosure, regardless of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's stated opposition to it.

Switching gears, Gogoi also criticized the government's financial decisions. He said, "The BJP eats ghee honey by borrowing. What more will the chief minister, who goes in a helicopter to attend weddings, do?"
Gogoi also expressed his displeasure with the government's ways of obtaining revenue, particularly the imposition of transportation penalties.

He claimed, "The chief minister uses transportation department vehicles to collect Rs 80 lakh a day. These are contribution parties hosted by the Chief Minister. In just one month, I had paid 10,000 rupees in Kaziranga. Other than liquor sales and car fines, the government receives no funding."

The MLA stated that Assam needs a new political landscape, pointing to a bitter rivalry between Himanta Biswa Sarma and Badruddin Ajmal as potential "enemies" in the future political order.
