Guwahati : In its weekly cabinet meet held today at Dispur, the state government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, presided over several matters and took definitive decisions to promulgate certain projects for the welfare of the people. Topics ranging from recruitment to cheaper electricity were taken up in today’s cabinet meet.
Towards 1 Lakh Jobs
The government will be filling up 611 vacancies under various Divisions of Public Works (Roads) Department.
Another 743 vacant posts of Assistant Professor and 233 Grade III & 524 Grade IV posts in different Provincialised and Government Model colleges under Higher Education Department shall be filled up in the next few days.

Making Electricity Cheaper
In order to provide cheaper electricity to consumers, the government is mulling plans to renew Power Purchase Agreement for 31 MW with NHPC till 2043 to help APDCL get power at a cheaper rate.
Boost to handicraft Industry
*To boost the handicraft sector of Assam, the government has approved Handicraft Policy of Assam, 2022 to facilitate growth and development of craft-based industries and provide and technological support to artisans and entrepreneurs.
*The government also looks forward to bridge the gap between consumers and online marketing by creating market linkages so as to facilitate export of products.
*One time financial assistance up to Rs 30,000 to all eligible handicraft units for development of web/portalapp for online marketing of their products.
*Three awards of Rs 10,000, rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 to handicraft Units to each district of Assam.
*Raw material banks shall be set up in each and every district of Assam.
*Roping in National Institute of Design, Export Promotion Council of handicrafts, India Trade Promotion Organisation, Development Commissioner, Govt. of India to support design and development.
*Photo Identity Cards shall be disbursed to all artisans
*Promotion of Craft Village by developing Cluster of a particular craft to scale up production of village crafts.
The above mentioned decisions are few of the topics taken up today for formulation in by the state government of Assam.
