Digital Desk: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh said on Friday that the Assam police are 100 percent committed to keeping the people of the state safe and do not wish to get involved in any conflicts, seemingly a reference to the banned militant group United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I).
He said that the state police will function within the parameters of the Indian Constitution.
"We don't want Assam to end up in a horrible situation like we did in the past. We will take legal action against anyone who tries to damage the state's development initiatives. In around two and a half years, we have freed one lakh bighas of land in Assam that had been unlawfully encroached upon by people of Bangladeshi heritage. Once, people from the Myanmar camp threatened us, hinting at ULFA-I, and caused chaos in the state of Bangladesh. Furthermore, our information indicates that they still have family in Bangladesh. The people of Assam need to consider if better law enforcement from us is better than a separatist group setting up camp in Myanmar," DGP Singh stated in a media statement.
