Digital Desk: In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption has apprehended Bidyut Kr Talukdar, a government official serving as the District Agriculture Officer in Assam's Darrang district. Talukdar's arrest comes after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe for facilitating the inclusion of a complainant in a training program.

The vigilant actions of the anti-corruption cell unfolded on Tuesday when they successfully trapped and apprehended Talukdar as he accepted the illicit payment in his office in Mangaldai. The move was part of the Directorate's ongoing efforts to curb corrupt practices within government agencies.

In an official statement posted on platform 'X,' the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption wrote, "Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed Bidyut Kr Talukdar, District Agricultural Officer, in his office after he accepted a bribe for nominating the name of the complainant for training."

This arrest follows a similar case last month when the Directorate apprehended Lat Mandal Achyut Das, an employee at the Guwahati Revenue Circle. Das was caught in the act while accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe related to mutation work processing. The complainant had initially been asked for Rs. 9,000, which was later reduced to Rs. 8,000 by Das.

Refusing to yield to corrupt demands, the complainant lodged a formal complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, leading to the sting operation at the Guwahati Revenue Circle office. During the operation, Das was apprehended, and the tainted bribe money was recovered from his possession with independent witnesses present.

These actions by the Directorate underscore the commitment of the Assam government to rooting out corruption at all levels of bureaucracy. The arrests send a strong message that corrupt practices will not be tolerated and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
