Digital Desk: In an ongoing war against drugs, narcotics worth over Rs 80 lakhs were seized and two persons were detained in Assam's Nagaon on Monday, the police informed.

The Nagaon Police conducted an operation after receiving information about potential narcotics exports. The drugs were discovered when authorities seized a car during the raid.

When the drugs were discovered and taken into custody, the authorities stopped and searched the Swift Dzire car extensively. On suspicion of smuggling the illegal goods, the two persons who were in the car at the time were also taken into custody.

"We set up a naka checking based on information we received from our sources. We found the drugs when we stopped and examined a car during the inspection," a police officer stated.

"We have also detained two people in connection to the operation," he added.

When questioned about the cost and weight of the seizure, the police officer added, "We haven't weighed anything yet, so we can't tell you the precise figure at this time. The seizure is estimated to be worth approximately 80 lakhs, however, we are unable to figure out its actual value at this time."

Meanwhile, two of the smugglers were apprehended, but one of them was able to escape, based on the information available. Those who were detained by the police were identified as Anarul Islam and Moinuddin Ahmed.

Additionally, the officials confirmed that the drugs were intended for distribution in Nagaon and were being smuggled from Dimapur in Nagaland.

The accused have been processed for further legal action.
