Digital Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) started working on a special summary revision of the electoral roll in Assam, to align it with the state's freshly delimited assembly and parliamentary seats.
The procedure's significant dates have been scheduled for November 10, and the final list of polling stations will be revealed which is going to be on December 1, The provisional electoral roll will be released, followed by the final electoral roll on January 31, 2024.
It is crucial to note that the updating process will persist until the ECI officially announces the election schedule.
Anurag Goel, Assam's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), highlighted on the extensive efforts that will be made. Before the revision of electoral records for the newly defined constituencies, a meticulous pre-revision of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 100% physical inspection through field employees will be carried out.
The electoral rolls are expected to change significantly as a result of the delimitation exercise. According to Goel, 80% of polling stations will remain unchanged as a result of new constituencies and boundary changes for existing constituencies, 10% will be relocated, and 10% will be newly formed.
