    Assam: Forest personnel killed by timber smugglers in Goalpara

    A four-person team from the forest department was attempting to confiscate a tractor that was carrying logs when the incident occurred on Monday night.

    Digital Desk: In a horrifying event, a group of timber smugglers attacked a group of forest department employees in Assam's Goalpara district, leaving one person dead and three others injured.

    According to sources, a team from the forest department carried out an operation against illegal timber smuggling in the Bor Matia forest region, which is part of the Krishnai Forest Range Office in Goalpara district and is around 120 kilometres from Guwahati, the state capital.

    The illicit timber smugglers used sharp weapons to harm the forest service employees during an operation.

    After the event, a police team later rescued the hurt forest workers and took them to the Goalpara civic hospital for treatment.

    It is to be noted that on the way to the hospital in Guwahati, one of the injured passed away.

    The deceased was identified as Rajbir Ahmed.

    Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam, a local MLA, urged a judicial investigation into the incident.

    The MLA stated, "I demand that the Assam government launch a judicial investigation into the incident and should take strong punishment against the miscreants.

    Alam further urged that the state government give the deceased person's nearest of kin a Rs 20 lakh compensation.
