Digital Desk: In a significant move towards promoting equitable access to education, the Assam Government has given its nod to a comprehensive reservation policy for admissions into Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). This policy is aimed at ensuring that students from marginalized communities receive fair representation and opportunities for skill development.
The reservation policy, tailored to address the needs of various communities falling under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and More Other Backward Classes (MOBC) categories, aims to bridge the educational divide and uplift the socio-economic status of these groups. Communities such as Tai Ahom, Moran, Matak, Chutia, and Koch Rajbongshi, among others, will benefit from this policy.
As part of the reservation strategy, a substantial allocation of seats has been designated under the 27 percent OBC/MOBC reservation quota. The distribution of reserved seats has been meticulously planned to ensure proportional representation for different communities. The distribution of reserved seats is as follows:
Koch Rajbongshi: 213 reserved seats
Tai Ahom: 164 reserved seats
Chutia: 147 reserved seats
Moran: 131 reserved seats
Matak: 131 reserved seats
The Assam Government's decision to allocate these specific numbers of seats reflects a commitment to acknowledging and accommodating the diverse cultural fabric of the state. By providing targeted reservations for these communities, the government is striving to create a more inclusive and representative educational landscape.

To address the issue of potential vacant seats within ITIs, a well-defined procedure has been outlined. After the conclusion of the fourth and fifth rounds of e-Counselling for all reserved categories, the system will consider the remaining registered and verified candidates from the reserved categories. These candidates will then be selected based on merit, and any available vacant seats will be allocated to them accordingly.
The implementation of this policy signifies the Assam Government's determination to facilitate educational opportunities for every stratum of society. By prioritizing these communities and ensuring their participation in skill development programs, the government is taking substantial strides towards fostering social and economic inclusivity.
The step taken by the Assam Government not only recognizes the importance of diverse representation but also reinforces the state's commitment to nurturing a skilled workforce that reflects the varied backgrounds and identities of its population.
