Assam Government to Provide Rs 1.5 Lakh to Bihu Committees: CM Sharma
Digital Desk: To end the ‘donation culture’ in the state during the Rongali Bihu celebration, the Assam government has announced a special grant of Rs 1.5 lakh to all Rongali Bihu Committees in the state.

However, the grant will be provided to those who have been holding Bihu functions within 7 days of the month of Bohag for at least past 10 years.

The Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement while addressing a press meet in Guwahati on Monday.

CM Sarma tweeted, “In order to discourage forcible donations from the business persons, we will provide a special grant of ₹1.5 lakh to all Rongali Bihu Celebration Committees of the state who have been holding Bihu functions within first 7 days of the month of Bohag for at least past 10 years.”

CM Sarma had already condemned the practice of collecting donations by the Bihu committees to organize the Bihu function in the state.

He added that collecting donations will now be deemed a criminal offence in Assam.

CM Sharma also added that during the Bihu celebrations, no time limitations would be applied by the government; however, a specific time will be set to end the cultural programs.

Further, CM Sarma also stated that the covid-19-night curfew and other covid-19 limitations would be lifted from February 15 onwards.
