Digital Desk: On Wednesday, the Assam cabinet opted to remove the optional math and science sections from future Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment exams. The choice was made during a cabinet meeting that was conducted at the Gandhi mandap in the city for the first time.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed media of the situation and stated that it was decided to maintain a balanced marking system in the APSC exams.
"It's a little unfair on the side of many aspiring candidates," CM remarked, "because those who are brilliant in math and science can get 100 out of 100, while others who choose other optional courses find it tough to achieve that much. We have thus decided to make a modification and remove the test's optional science and maths papers. Questions pertaining to these two disciplines will now be found in the general papers.
The majority of the states in the nation have already chosen the same method, the chief minister said, therefore the state cabinet made the choice.
"In the past, the APSC selection tests were graded on a scale from 2000 to 1600; under the new approach, this scale will be decreased to roughly 1600. The syllabus would be created by APSC, he continued.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma further mentioned that the system will soon be operational. The new marking system would be adopted before that, according to Sarma, who added that the APSC will shortly advertise recruitment for about 700 positions. The APSC Chairman and members will now receive compensation in accordance with the seventh pay commission thanks to a decision made by the state cabinet to update their salary.
