Earlier, on Monday, June 24, CM Sarma conducted a review of the 'Pragyan Bharti' scheme implemented by the Higher Education Department of Assam.
Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that the State Government will cover the admission fees for college students whose parents' annual income is below Rs 2 lakh.
"We will bear an annual cost of approximately Rs 150 crore for this initiative, which will be disbursed to the respective colleges in July," CM Sarma stated on social media.
"If any student encounters difficulties, they are encouraged to contact the District Commissioner or Education Department," he added.
Earlier, on Monday, June 24, CM Sarma conducted a review of the 'Pragyan Bharti' scheme implemented by the Higher Education Department of Assam. This scheme enables students with parental incomes below Rs 2 lakh per annum to receive free admission to higher education courses in the state.
According to an official statement, a total of 57,469 applicants qualified for fee waivers in the upcoming 2024-25 academic session. This number is expected to increase following the publication of the second merit list for undergraduate admissions.
Over the past three years, a cumulative amount of Rs 427.51 crore has been allocated to colleges and universities for reimbursement of fee waivers, benefitting 10.95 lakh students under the scheme.
