Digital Desk: In a significant development in the horrifying child abuse case in Guwahati, a journalist was arrested on Wednesday for his involvement in the case.

The arrested journalist has been identified as Abhijit Bose. He was the brother of the personal assistant of the main accused, Dr. Sangeeta Datta. Reportedly, Abhijit provided protection to his elder sister over the phone. He was arrested for providing protection to the accused under Section 120 (B).

Today, Dr Sangeeta Datta was brought to the forensic department of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) from the Pan Bazaar police station for a health check-up.

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) appointed child rights activist Miguel Das Queah as a Support Person for the victims in the case on Tuesday. Miguel, who has been vocal in the child abuse matter since locals filed a complaint against a renowned doctor couple, will continue to be in charge of legal assistance for the victims until they are rehabilitated.

Meanwhile, authorities looked into the CCTV footage from the doctor's residence. As many as 32 CCTV visuals have surfaced, and the authorities are systematically reviewing each one as their inquiry into the horrible conduct continues. On the other hand, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and completed within the next six months.
