    Assam: Lat Mandal Arrested on Bribery Charges

    Digital Desk: In another incident, sleuths from Assam's Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption detained a Lat Mandal in Kamrup district on Friday for receiving a bribe.

    Gitanjali Deka has been recognized as the Lat Mandal. She was assigned to the Kamalpur Revenue Circle's circle officer's office in Kamrup.


    Deka was caught red-handed by anti-corruption squad authorities while taking Rs 5000 from the complainant in exchange for issuing his land sale licence.


    In the meantime, IPS Surendra Kumar stated on Twitter, "Today, a team of @DIR VAC ASSAM laid a trap at the O/O Circle Officer, Kamalpur Revenue Circle, Kamrup and apprehended Smti Gitanjali Deka Das, Lat Mandal for demanding and accepting a bribe from the complainant for issuing his land sale permission."


    On March 24, the Lat Mandal assigned to the circle officer's office in Sarupeta Revenue Circle in the Barpeta district was detained on bribery charges.


    According to authorities, the accused employee, Naba Choudhury, was apprehended while taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant. Officials from the anti-corruption cell cornered and arrested him in a restaurant in Bhawanipur.


    Importantly, the Assam Police have increased their efforts to apprehend and arrest government personnel who seek bribes. In this context, the Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, has cautioned all staff that if they are detected receiving bribes in exchange for providing services, they will face severe consequences.
