Assam: Liquor Prices to go Down from September 1

The new adjustments are intended to make alcoholic beverages more affordable and boost sales across the state.

Digital Desk: The liquor prices will be reduced in Assam from September 1, as per a new notification by the Assam government.

The Assam Excise Department has announced that this price reduction will apply to a wide range of alcoholic beverages, including beer, rum, whisky, and premium spirits.

This decision follows a price hike in March that led to a decrease in alcohol sales. The new adjustments are intended to make alcoholic beverages more affordable and boost sales across the state.

Key Changes in Assam Alcohol Prices:

    • Beer: The price of a 650ml bottle with 5% alcohol will decrease by Rs. 22, and beers with higher alcohol content will see a Rs. 34 reduction.

    • Rum & Whisky: A 750ml bottle of general-brand rum will be reduced by Rs. 117, while regular whisky will drop by Rs. 144.

    • Luxury Spirits: Premium brands, including high-end whisky, gin, and brandy, will experience price cuts of up to Rs. 214.

After a substantial increase in alcohol prices earlier this year that impacted various brands, the state government has opted to reduce prices to stimulate demand. This price cut is intended to counteract the drop in alcohol sales and is strategically timed before the festive season.

With Assam consuming approximately 5.30 lakh liters of alcohol daily, the price reduction is anticipated to enhance both sales and excise revenue.
