Digital Desk: With the Lok Sabha Election 2024 around the corner, Assam gears up for a seamless electoral process. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, has left no stone unturned in ensuring that the upcoming election is conducted with utmost transparency and efficiency.

Under the watchful eye of the Election Commission of India, arrangements have been made to uphold law and order, monitor expenditure, and ensure a peaceful environment during the election. Election Observers have been appointed to maintain a strong vigilance over the proceedings.

One significant initiative towards fair elections is the implementation of live monitoring and webcasting, allowing real-time monitoring of polling day activities. This ensures transparency and accountability throughout the electoral process.

A total of 10,001 polling stations have been set up for Phase 1, with 92 model polling stations, 11 managed by Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and 752 managed by females. Webcasting will cover all 5,509 polling stations, enabling authorities to monitor the process live.

Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) have been provided at all polling stations, including drinking water, adequate furniture, waiting sheds, toilets, lighting arrangements, creche facilities, ramps for PwD voters, and voter facilitation posters.

Special arrangements such as transport facilities and assistance from volunteers, including wheelchairs for PwD electors and senior citizens, have been made available at polling stations. The Saksham mobile app facilitates transportation for PwD voters, ensuring inclusivity.

Various IT applications like the Voter Helpline App, KYCECI App, cVIGIL app, and the Election Helpline number (1950) have been deployed for the convenience of voters, enhancing accessibility and efficiency.

A workforce of 40,004 Polling and Presiding Officers will be engaged, along with 10,001 Ballot Units, Control Units, and VVPATs. Micro-observers will be stationed at critical polling stations, ensuring the integrity of the process.

In Phase 1, 35 candidates will compete across five High Priority Constituencies (HPCs), with a total of 8,647,869 electors. The option of a postal ballot facility has been extended to senior citizens above 85 years, PwDs, and essential service personnel, ensuring their participation.

Extensive awareness campaigns under SVEEP, featuring State icons and SHGs, have been conducted to encourage voter turnout and participation in the democratic process.

The polling hours will be from 7 am to 5 pm, providing ample time for voters to cast their ballots. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel urges all concerned citizens to exercise their democratic rights by casting their votes in the Lok Sabha Election 2024.

With meticulous planning and robust measures in place, Assam stands ready to conduct a fair, free, and peaceful Lok Sabha Election, reaffirming its commitment to democracy.
