Assam: Rhino attacks father-son duo, receives severe injuries

Notably, the injured were immediately rushed to a hospital in Jorhat where they are receiving treatment.

Digital Desk: In Assam's Kaziranga, a wild rhino attacked at least two motorcycle riders, reports stated on Thursday.

As per the reports, the incident took place at the Haldhibari corridor near Kohora range. In the rhino attack, a father-son pair suffered injuries.

The father and son were on a two-wheeler from Tezpur to Jorhat when a rhino attacked and stomped on their car, according to the information that has been obtained.

In the rhino attack, both the father and son suffered injuries, however, it now emerged that the son, Gyanam Mahanta received severe injuries.

Notably, the injured were immediately rushed to a hospital in Jorhat where they are receiving treatment.

According to a witness with knowledge of the situation, "two people were attacked by a rhino today at around 7.30 a.m. in the Haldhibari animal corridor region. They were coming in from Tezpur and were traveling on a bike."

"Both of them were hurt, with Gyanam Mahanta, the child, suffering serious injuries. At Kohora Medical, they received first assistance before being sent to Jorhat Medical College, he continued.

It may be mentioned that habitat loss has resulted in a rise in human-animal conflicts in the area. At some point in February of this year, a one-horned rhino strayed from the Eastern Range Gamiri within the Biswanath wildlife division, Kaziranga National Park in Assam, injuring up to four persons.
