Digital Desk: The Special Task Force (STF) Assam carried out an operation in Guwahati on Friday evening and seized a total of Rs 30 lakh in counterfeit notes.
Based on special input, the STF team conducted a search on a rented house located on Saukuchi Road in Dakhingaon, Guwahati, receiving specific information regarding the sale and distribution of counterfeit Indian currency notes (FICN).
According to sources, a total of five persons were arrested. The arrestees have been identified as Nizam Ali (50), Hafizur Rahman (36), Abdul Rajak (46), Munindra Hazarika (44), and Atikur Rahman (38). Nizam Ali and Hafizur Rahman, residents of North Lakhimpur, Abdul Rajak and Munindra Hazarika, residents of Lakhimpur, and Atikur Rahman hail from Hatigaon area, sources added.
26 counterfeit notes of Rs. 500 denomination (FICN) were reportedly seized by the STF during the search operations. Additionally, six cell phones, and six black-coloured paper the size of Rs. 500 that can be changed into Rs. 500 FICN by applying a specific chemical, a bottle of liquid chemical used to develop counterfeit notes of Rs. 500 denomination, a bottle of suspected liquid chemical, a bundle of black papers the size of Rs. 500 notes used for counterfeiting, a white plastic marketing bag and brown tape, Rs. 7,700 in cash, and one Scorpio vehicle with the registration number AS 01 AR 1918.
The confiscated items and the apprehended persons have been turned over to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Hatigaon Police Station for case registration, investigation, and commencement of appropriate legal proceedings.
