Digital Desk: In a shocking incident, a student was detained by the Hailakandi police in Assam on Wednesday.

Following the discovery of an alleged question paper leak incident during the ongoing higher secondary examination, the student was detained by the police.

According to reports, the accused student leaked the Modern Indian Language (Bengali) question paper via WhatsApp.

In the middle of the exam, there were purportedly leaks of the question paper and answers over WhatsApp. After that, the police assessed the situation and detained the perpetrator.

He had managed to bring in a cell phone inside the exam center, but the police also took it away from him.

It is known that the trading of question papers and answers was occurring within the 'HSSC' WhatsApp group. The group had 10 members in it.

Following the incident, an investigation has been launched, and further information is being awaited.

The question paper leak coincides with the government's introduction, during the Assam assembly's budget session, of a bill that includes strict steps to prevent examination fraud.

The Assam Public Examination Bill (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment), 2024 was introduced by Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika on behalf of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the first day of the budget session.

This bill covers all government-held examinations, such as the Grade III and IV direct recruitment exams conducted by the State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC), the Gauhati High Court examinations, the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations, and others.

Additionally, the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC), Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) examinations, and others will also fall under its jurisdiction.

Notably, the aforementioned bill was approved by the Assam cabinet in January this year.
