Digital Desk: Recently, forest officials alleged that several valuable trees and other flora cultivation were destroyed near the Assam-Mizoram border in Assam's Hailakandi district. It has been alleged that some individuals caused this destruction from Mizoram.
Moreover, the forest officials of the region counted that the individuals cleared 1.5 hectares of forest land. It was also noted that they wanted to destroy more of the forest cover. But, the individuals from Mizoram stepped back when Assam Police went for the inquiry into the matter.
Assam Police and forest officials stated that this destruction is a new attempt to encroach Assam's land. According to the forest officials, a team of Assam Police reached the spot once the officials informed them. Assam Police asked the individuals from Mizoram to step back.
Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi district, Gaurav Upadhyay, also commented on this matter. He stated, "Things are normal currently. They pushed back as we ordered them. Though a large portion of forest area was destroyed. We have already notified regarding the happening to our higher management and even talked to officials of Kolasib district of Mizoram."

Gaurav Upadhyay stated that there was a shot to destroy forest areas in two locations. These two locations were Gallacherra and Gutguti, under the Ramnathpur police station.
"Gallacherra is a location where Mizos have been living for considerable years though this time a new woodland area at Gutguti was even targeted. They ruined forests and set them on fire. It's a reserve forest and there are no individuals living in those locations," Upadhyay reported.
"Large number of bamboos was thrashed to clear the site for further usefulness. We visited the site with the police but we didn't locate anyone. It was definitely an endeavor to encroach Assam's land and we have notified concerning the happening to deputy commissioner of Hailakandi and higher management in Guwahati. I expect they examine the issue," Upadhyay added.
Assam shares 164.6 kilometers of inter-state border with Mizoram. Three of Assam's districts, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, share a boundary with Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit. This happening occurred between Hailakandi and Kolasib district.
