Digital Desk: The flood situation in Assam remains grim, with hundreds of people displaced in the state's Barpeta district. Reportedly, over 67,000 individuals from 93 villages in the Barpeta district have been affected. According to an
Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, 225 hectares of crops in the Barpeta district are currently underwater. The report added that three children died in the district in the last 48 hours after drowning in flood waters, raising the state death toll to six.
A resident of Shilla village in the Barpeta district stated that the residents are having problems because their houses have been damaged by flood water. "It's Eid tomorrow, but we're in big trouble because our houses are flooded. Even Eidgah Maidan is inundated. "The price of vegetables is also rising," a resident told ANI. Due to the flood and heavy rainfall, a bridge in Tamulpur's Kumarikata area washed away.
Meanwhile, the water level of
the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati fell marginally on Sunday, slightly alleviating the flood situation in Assam. Locals are concerned that the water level will rise again if the rain continues.
According to state government officials, the number of individuals affected this year is significantly lower than the previous year. Last year, nearly 100 lakh people were affected in the state, while this year the figure is estimated to be around 5 lakh, ANI reported, citing Assam government sources.
