Reportedly, Kanchan da has a local accomplishment in the name of Akash Orang, who is a state committee member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).
Digital Desk: The Assam police have detained a top leader of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) for spreading red terror in Assam, reports said.
Reportedly, the detained person has been identified as Kanchan Da alias Jyotish. His real name is Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, who hails from Howrah, West Bengal and is working in the Cachar district of Assam.
Guwahati Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh said to Times Now, "He has been charged with establishing a totally new Maoist system in Assam to construct a red corridor in the state."
As per reports, the police recovered incriminating information from the Maoist leader, including a laptop, Maoist literature and other devices.
Moreover, the Guwahati police team has seized Rs. 3.6 lakhs from the Maoist leader. As per the police report, there are over 200 cases filed in Kanchan Da's name, with prize money of more than Rs 3 crore.
CP Harmeet Singh said that the identified Maoist leader planned to make Naxalites in Assam; however, the Assam police were able to apprehend the culprits at an early stage.
CP Harmeet Singh added, "It's a massive boost for national security. The Maoist leader will be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
"Interrogation is going on, and forensic test will be done to identify money transactions and links," Singh added.
