Digital Desk: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that Assam experienced  38% less rainfall in the pre-monsoon period, from March 1 to May 31, resulting in blistering temperatures that incapacitated daily life in the state. During the season last year, the state received 40% more rainfall than usual.

According to the IMD, Assam received only 337 mm of rain during the pre-monsoon period, compared to the typical 542 mm.

Meanwhile, the northeast region as a whole received 242 mm of rain compared to the typical 373 mm, resulting in a 35% shortfall from March to May, according to the statement.

Due to a lack of rainfall action, maximum temperatures in several Assam towns have exceeded 37 degrees Celsius in the last few days. According to an IMD official, "almost all districts received normal or above-normal rainfall until the end of April." However, due to the lack of cyclonic activity over the Bay of Bengal, rainfall has been substantially reduced since the end of April. By the end of May, the lack of rain had increased maximum temperatures."

Meanwhile, Sanjay O'Neil Shaw, deputy director general of meteorology at RMD, Guwahati, stated that the IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall with gusty winds in many places across Arunachal Pradesh and light rain in isolated places across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for the next five days.

Guwahati registered a 6-degree increase, which as of now is 37.8 degrees Celsius on Friday.
