Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid the foundation stone for a 25-megawatt solar power project in Namrup, marking a significant stride towards sustainable energy. This initiative is part of Assam's broader commitment to generating 3000 MW of solar energy by 2027, aligning with India's environmental goals set forth at the COP summit.

During a public meeting in Dibrugarh, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized Assam's dedication to renewable energy. "We have laid the foundation stone for a 25-megawatt solar power project in Namrup. Assam has taken a pledge to produce 3000 MW of solar energy by 2027, coinciding with the Prime Minister's promise at the COP summit. That will be Assam's contribution to the global environment. We are already in the process of producing 200 MW of solar power, and within this year we will start work on the remaining 2500 MW of solar power. Today's function is one of the components of the entire plan," he stated.

The 25 MW Namrup Solar Power Project represents a crucial step in Assam's ambitious solar energy scheme. The project is expected to significantly benefit residents in Naharkatia, Namrup, and nearby areas by providing a cleaner and more sustainable source of energy. This initiative also aims to boost local employment and contribute to the state's economic growth.

At the public meeting, Chief Minister Sarma outlined the broader vision of the state government, highlighting the progress already made in solar energy production. Currently, Assam is producing 200 MW of solar power, and plans are underway to commence work on an additional 2500 MW within the year. This comprehensive plan underscores Assam's commitment to contributing to global environmental sustainability.

The foundation stone laying ceremony in Namrup is not just a milestone for Assam's energy sector but also a testament to the state's proactive approach to addressing climate change. The Chief Minister's announcement reinforces Assam's role in India's renewable energy landscape, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
