Assam: Kaziranga National Park witness highest surge in tourist footfall

Notably, as the national park is open until the end of May, the average footfall is likely to be even higher.

Digital Desk: The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam saw a considerable increase in tourist visitation, park officials said on Sunday.

Reportedly, over two lakh people visited the world-famous Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, the most in the last 12 years. The national park's revenue also increased, crossing Rs 4.5 crores.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site recorded a total of 2,20,027 lakh Indian tourists and 733 foreign visitors, park officials said.

As per reports, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of foreign tourists visiting the national park has decreased in the last two years. But, the recent exemptions in the covid-19 protocols have aided in the influx of tourists in large numbers.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ramesh Gogoi said that more tourists visited the Kaziranga National Park this year than the previous year.

"Over 2.20 lakh people visited the Kaziranga National Park in 2021-22, which is the biggest number of visitors the park has ever seen. We have collected Rs 4.47 crore from tourists so far," Gogoi said.

Notably, as the national park is open until the end of May, the average footfall is likely to be even higher.

"There are two more tourist months available for tourists to visit the park this year, and we expect that a large number of tourists will visit the park, allowing us to earn even more money. In comparison to prior years, the number of visitors to the park this year is the largest," Gogoi added.
