BJP big guns to hold rallies in Assam from June 11-30

While Shah will campaign in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, BJP national president JP Nadda will speak at a sizable gathering in Jorhat, upper Assam.

Digital desk: With an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well as to mark the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, BJP big guns including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will hold a series of massive rallies across Assam from June 11 to June 30.

In the next elections, the state's BJP-led alliance plans to run for 14 seats in parliament.

While Shah will campaign in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, BJP national president JP Nadda will speak at a sizable gathering in Jorhat, upper Assam.

Party state president Bhabesh Kalita told a press conference on Monday that numerous Union ministers, including ministers of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal and earth sciences Kiren Rijiju, will also attend several rallies.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister, will speak at five rallies in the Lok Sabha districts of Diphu, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, and Dhubri, while Sonowal will campaign in the cities of Guwahati, Mangaldai, Kaliabor, and Dibrugarh.

Kalita said, the party has widespread support in the state and its supporters are working hard at the grassroots level in preparation for the upcoming elections.

Only negligence had previously plagued the northeast. After Narendra Modi was elected prime minister in 2014, the situation changed he added.

According to Kalita, the BJP in Assam won't lose any of its current seats; instead, it'll gain at least three more. He continued by saying that the party has made every effort and was certain of taking the Kaliabor and Barpeta seats out of Congress' hands. Congress won the Kaliabor seat six times and Barpeta seven times.

In both the LS elections of 2014 and 2019, the BJP won seven seats. The saffron party wants to bring the number up to 12.

Additionally, Kaita stated that the BJP and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), the main ally in the state government, will run candidates in each of the 14 seats. He claimed that, as of just now, no decision regarding seat sharing has been made.
