Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win more seats in Tripura than it did in 2018.
After completing a door-to-door campaign for the BJP's Agartala candidate Papia Dutta, the Assam CM, who is also the convener of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), expressed confidence in the saffron party's win in the upcoming assembly elections in the northeastern state.
"I am optimistic that the BJP would win more seats in the 2023 Assembly election than it did in the 2018 Assembly election in Tripura," stated CM Sarma. What I'm seeing is that the wave is nice, and people's support for the BJP is strong. They also like PM Modi, which suggests that the BJP will win more seats in Tripura than it did in 2018."
Himanta Biswa Sarma, speaking about the seat sharing between the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM), asserted that workers from both parties will not vote for each other, leaving both with zero seats in the end.
Furthermore, CM Sarma criticized the Congress' Agartala candidate Sudip Roy Barma, alleging that he had failed badly in his job to elevate his community. He stated that Papia Dutta, the BJP's nominee, will be the ideal alternative for the people since she is young, dynamic, has a good image, and commands respect inside the party.
It should be recalled that on February 3, Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a public meeting in which he urged the people of the state not to waste their vote on TIPRA Motha.
CM Sarma appealed while addressing a rally in Tripura's Krishnapur assembly constituency in the Khowai district, adding that TIPRA will not be able to form the government and so any support for them would be futile. "What is Tipraland...you have to partition Tripura to achieve Tipraland," the NEDA convenor told reporters.
CM Sarma also alleged that the BJP was discussing a possible union with TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Debbarma. He stated that the saffron party had previously offered a comprehensive package for the development of Tripura, its languages, and the tribal people's economy in a series of meetings in Guwahati. "BJP is ready for any sort of devolution, but do not ask to partition Tripura," he said.
Meanwhile, CM Sarma claimed that the state of Tripura was founded by the royal dynasty of TIPRA Motha ruler Pradyot Debbarma and that further partition would be detrimental. "The BJP does not accept Tripura division," he stated.
