Jordan/Guwahati: Perfume baron of Assam and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal featured in the list of 500 most influential Muslim persons in the World.
The list was created by the Royal Islamic Studies Centre (RISC) that publishes this list of 500 most influential Muslims in the world every year. The RISC is based in Jordan. It is a strategic Studies Centre that imparts independent research for its scholars on Islamic studies. The entity is affiliated with the Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought.

This year only two Indians could occupy a place in the list. Apart from Badruddin Ajmal, business tycoon Azim Prenji too featured in the coveted list.
With this, Ajmal gets placed in the list for the 11 consecutive times. The list includes names of people who have voraciously contributed to charitable works and are great philanthropists. Ajmal is a reputed businessman in the country whose Ajmal Group of companies deal in perfume and clothes. Born into a Bengali Muslim family, Badruddin Ajmal is the son of Haji Ajmal Ali, a rice farmer from Hojai in central Assam. In 1950, his father moved to Mumbai to try and succeed in the perfume industry using the oud plant. After the opening of the first store in the 1960s, the Ajmal perfume brand quickly grew to become a large brand in the Middle East.
