Digital Desk: A mass transmission of coronavirus has been detected in Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT) campus today. As per reports, most students who tested positive for Covid-19 hail from other states.
According to the latest reports, as many as 30-40 students from the Guwahati IIT campus tested positive for the virus.
Sources stated that a family residing on the university campus has also been infected. Those with severe symptoms have been admitted to GMCH, and the others have been quarantined at the university premises.
Moreover, a quarantine center has also been constructed on the university premises. Therefore, university officials have advised students not to wander around and gather in groups.
Besides students and a residing family of the university, several officials, staff and professors have also been infected with the virus.
The surge of Covid-19 in the state has begun at a great speed. The third wave of Covid-19 has officially started with the new Omicron variant.
On Tuesday, more than ten students from Ramanujan Junior College, Nagaon, tested positive for Covid-19. As a result, the college's hostel has been declared a containment zone by the state government.

Guwahati saw more than double the COVID-19 cases on Monday. The number of registered cases reached 164 compared to 78 cases on the last day. Moreover, the COVID 19 condition in Assam touched a figure of 351 cases on Monday, taking the overall positivity rate to 0.96%.
As of now, more positive cases have been recorded for the virus in the state. Assam's neighboring state, Meghalaya, has already issued new curbs for the threat of an increasing number of positive cases. On Tuesday, cases of Omicron variant were also detected in Meghalaya.
Concerning the threat of the virus, Meghalaya announced some limitations to be applicable from January 5. It has become a serious concern for the Assam government to take proper measures for limiting the spread of the third wave of Covid-19.
