CAA is completely insignificant in Assam: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
People who have registered for citizenship in Assam but were unable to find their names in the National Register of Citizenship will now apply for CAA....

Digital desk: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claimed that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is insignificant in Assam, this is the only state from where the "least number of applications" for Indian citizenship are expected to come from.

By the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday opened a portal for those who qualify to apply for Indian citizenship.

In a press conference held on Thursday, CM Sarma stated, "CAA is completely insignificant in Assam; the state will have the least number of applications on the portal."

According to Sarma, the act is quite clear that the deadline for applying for citizenship is December 31, 2014, and in Assam, people who have registered for citizenship in Assam but were unable to find their names in the National Register of Citizenship will now apply for CAA.

The chief minister also said that the BJP would win 13 of Assam's 14 Lok Sabha seats.

Sarma also added that after the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will run for a third term.
