CM Sarma: There is no plan to impose lockdown-like restrictions, situation under control

Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma (CM Sarma) on Tuesday hinted that the government would take strict measures to fight against the surge of Covid-19 cases in the state. If the situation gets severe, strict measures will be imposed instantly.

However, CM Sarma has further stated that even though the Covid-19 cases are rising, the state's overall situation is under control. He further added that there is no plan to impose lockdown-like restrictions in the state now.

Moreover, CM Sarma said that Assam would possibly see 12,000-14,000 Covid-19 cases per day in this third wave. This number will be double compared to last year's highest number of cases.

CM Sarma further added, "We wish that the third wave will be over in the following 45 days. The Covid-19 situation in the state is under control, but we don't know what will happen tomorrow."

"Earlier, the Covid-19 situation in Delhi was equivalent to Assam, but they set strict regulations when detection of Covid-19 cases boosts. We are not going at that stage because our hospitalization pace is still low."

Assam's chief minister also indicated that when the requirement of the hospital beds increases and additional issues will arise, the state government will have to take strict measures.

Including this, the chief minister added that the restrictions had been relaxed in consideration of the occasion of Bhogali Bihu in Assam. The curfew timing has been revised for the Bihu from 11 pm to 4 am.

"The curfew will be in place from 11 pm to 4 am for Uruka night and the next morning. The decision has been taken considering the individuals returning to their homes on Uruka night as well as going to the market on the next morning, especially to buy fish," CM Sarma conveyed.

However, CM Sarma has urged people to follow Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government.
