Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundations for the redevelopment of Nagaland's century-old Dimapur Railway Station.
It is one of 508 stations across the country that will be renovated as part of the 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme'.
The Prime Minister virtually laid the foundations for the reconstruction of Dimapur Railway Station.
In his address, the Prime Minister stated that all state capitals in the northeast will soon be linked by a railway network. Modi stated that work on double lines, gauge conversion, electrification, and additional routes is underway.
"Commissioning of new railway lines in the region has increased three times," he further stated.
The 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' would modernize 56 railway stations in the northeast.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland Governor La Ganesan stated that the Dimapur Railway Station is the second busiest in the northeast and is critical to the nation's security since it allows for simple movement and deployment of soldiers.
According to a senior official, the reconstruction will cost Rs 283 crore and will take two and a half years to complete.
The projected Dimapur main station building will have an area of 17,484 square meters from the current 5,160 square meters, according to P K Kshatriya, Northeast Frontier Railway's Chief Administrative Officer (Construction).
He also mentioned other features such as huge waiting areas with sophisticated passenger facilities, food plazas, green buildings, solar panels, and rainwater collection.
