color:black">Digital Desk: The Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Diganta Barah,
expressed serious concern over the alleged child abuse case in Guwahati on
Sunday, stating that the medical reports of the victim girl are extremely
concerning; thus, the police will seek the appointment of a Special Public
Prosecutor (SPP) to establish the case in a court of law.

color:black">To guarantee a swift trial in the alleged child abuse case
following the submission of the charge sheet, the police would also file an
appeal with the High Court via the state government of Assam, according to the
    Commissioner of Police.

color:black">"The case has been closely monitored by Assam chief minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam DGP GP Singh and vowed strict action against the
perpetrators of the crime," CP Barah said during a news briefing yesterday
in Guwahati. The chief minister has also asked us to monitor the minor girl's
health in order to provide her with a healthy and safe environment. The state
government will handle all medical attendance and support."

color:black">Meanwhile, the doctor pair has been charged under several
provisions of the POCSO law for their alleged role in sexually assaulting the
    underage girl.

color:black">"Previously, we had filed a complaint against the couple at
the Paltan Bazar police station (case no. 193/2023) under various sections of
the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Juvenile Justice Act." However,
following a medical examination of the minor girl by a team of experts at the
Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), we determined from the medical report
    that the girl was assaulted both physically and sexually by the doctor couple;
thus, sections under the POCSO act were imposed on them as well. "The minor
girl is currently in the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC)," CP
    Barah noted.

color:black">Earlier, during a search operation at the doctor couple's home,
authorities rescued another daughter and kid from the structure. The older
girl, who is believed to be between the ages of 11 and 12, is in the care of
her legal guardian. While the juvenile kid is now being checked by a medical
expert team at the GMCH, the final medical report has not yet been officially
    given to the police.

color:black">"Though the doctor couple previously claimed that they are
the biological parents of the victim girl and minor boy (whom they allegedly
adopted), our preliminary investigation has revealed that those were false
claims made by the couple." "It remains to be seen who gave the couple
custody," the Commissioner of Police added.

    Earlier, Guwahati police
had arrested both physicians and a maidservant in connection with an alleged
    child abuse case.
