Digital Desk: On August 8, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will meet with Assam's 12 opposition parties in New Delhi to give opposition politics a huge boost ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

However, the Congress leadership has stated ahead of the key meeting that Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF will not be a member of the opposition alliance led by Congress, according to a statement published by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday.

Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will attend the August 8 meeting to discuss the unified plan of action of Assam's 12 opposition parties with INDIA, stated the AICC in-charge for Assam, Jitendra Singh.

Furthermore, the 12-party group includes, in addition to two regional parties, Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Left bloc.

Notably, Singh also lauded the recent Supreme Court decision to postpone Rahul's conviction in the Modi surname defamation case as a "victory of truth."

According to the Assam PCC statement, Singh confirmed that the AIUDF will never be a part of INDIA. The AIUDF has been accused of "helping BJP" by the grand-old party despite being the second-largest opposition party in the state assembly behind Congress.

Dispelling suspicions of a shift in leadership, Singh stated that the AICC has full faith in state PCC president Bhupen Bora and that the party will continue to run under his direction.
