Digital Desk: The Assam BJP has decided to finalise its candidates and seat-sharing arithmetic by the end of February. On February 28, a crucial meeting is scheduled in Delhi with the top leadership.
Assam BJP Chief Bhabesh Kalita is likely to accompany Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in this crucial meeting. As per the report, the BJP chief has already laid the plan for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and the meeting will decide the fate of the candidates.
Bhavesh Kalita said on Tuesday that the final list of candidates for the 12 Lok Sabha seats in the state will be determined by the party's top leadership, considering the recommendations put forth by the special committee.
“Tomorrow, discussions regarding the election roadmap will take place in Delhi. The central leadership of the party will make decisions on allocating seats to our ally parties. The official list of candidates will be released following the meeting,” the BJP chief added.
"The finalization of candidates yet to be fielded is pending. Our target is to secure 12 or more seats. A survey is scheduled for the two constituencies in Assam without assigned convenors," stated Bhabesh Kalita.
Kalita said, "In the subsequent phase, surveys will be conducted in all 14 constituencies. Numerous leaders have expressed interest in participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, and the submission of biodata for a ticket is not required."
The Assam BJP president mentioned that several political opponents are expected to join the party by the first week of March, although specific names were not disclosed.
It is noteworthy that conveners and co-conveners have not been appointed for two constituencies, namely Kokrajhar in the BTR and Barpeta. The Kokrajhar constituency is anticipated to be allocated to the BJP's ally, the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL). There is speculation that the ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) may get the Barpeta constituency, but an official announcement is pending.
