Digital Desk: Cyclone Mocha is predicted to make landfall on May 14 in the region along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has warned of heavy rain and gusty winds promptly.

The IMD has issued a warning for Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura because areas of the three states, which are close to Myanmar and Bangladesh, may be impacted by heavy rain and strong winds. On that day, the IMD issued an "orange alert" for the three states. An "orange alert" is a warning to disaster management authorities to be ready for any difficulty.

The IMD Regional Meteorological Centre issued heavy rainfall warnings in Tripura and Mizoram on May 13, warning of rain in most locations with heavy rainfall in isolated places in the two NE states.

The Met Office has projected rain in numerous places in Nagaland, Manipur, and south Assam, with heavy rain in isolated areas. Simultaneously, the IMD issued a wind warning for Tripura, Mizoram, and South Manipur, where squally winds gusting to 65 kmph are expected on May 14.

Mocha is expected to weaken partially from May 13 evening and pass southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coastlines between Cox's Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar) around the forenoon of May 14 with maximum sustained wind speeds of 110-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph.
